When can I join Werribee Little Athletics?
The Little Athletic year begins in October to the following March for 'Track and Field' and from April to September for 'Cross Country'. You can register at any time during the athletic year providing you are between the age of 5 (born after 1st Oct 2004) and 15.
How much does Little Athletics cost?
For the 2011/2012 season, the Centre Registration costs per athlete are as follows:
Full Season Registrations
Centre Registration is $130 per athlete
Fees are as follows:
One Child: $130.00
Family of Two: $260.00
Family of Three: $339.00
Family of Four: $418.00
Family of Five: $497.00
*Discount is given for the 3rd and subsequent child from the same family.
Late Entry Registrations
Once registrations have been paid, no refund is available however, athletes are welcome to try out prior to joining.From January 1st, Centre Registration will be $75 (no discount for third child).
Winter Season Registrations
April to September (Cross Country) Registration is covered under the summer season registration fee, however new members are welcome to join WLAC cross country season for a reduced registration cost.

All athletes compete together and many events are based on ability rather than club groupings.
How do I know what age group I will compete in?
All age groups are determined by the year and month of birth.
Age groups listed below must be born between 1st October and following 30th September of the year of birth:

What do the kids do?
Each competition day the children participate in a selection of events that rotate through a program. (see 2011/12 program for details)
Throughout the season athletes have an opportunity to participate in additional events (Relays / Regional T&F / State Multis / Open Days) depending on age with opportunities to progress to State Level competitions.
The Under 6 age group will participate in an Under 6 Track program as follows:
- Each saturday morning, parents will register U6 athletes at the normal club tables by 8.15am
- U6 atheletes may attend the warm up exercises with all other athletes in the middle of the track.
- The program will be a mixed session, combining track events and skills training
All under 6 athletes who participate in at least 50% of the weekly programs will receive participation trophies from their club.
During the Cross Country season, the athletes run a single race of a distance between 1 and 3km, depending on their age.
What are the events?
Athletes compete in a series of events on a rotational basis.
Track:
- Sprints (70m, 100m, 200m),
- Middle Distance (300m, 400m) depending on age,
- Long Distance (800m, 1500m ) depending on age.
- Hurdles (60m, 80m, 100m, 300m) depending on age.
Field:
- Long Jump / Triple Jump / High Jump.
- Shot Put / Discus / Javelin (depending on age).
Cross Country (Winter Season).
Under 6 participate in a mix of skills based training (known as our On Track Program) and events on the main track or field
Where are the events held?
During the Track & Field Season, the Werribee Little Athletics Centre use the VU Wyndham Sporting Complex located in Hoppers Lane, Werribee (Melways map 206, ref J6)
Cross country events are held at several locations around the Werribee area. Details are advised to athletes in advance and will be available on this website throughout the Cross Country Season.
What time does the program start and finish?
A summer morning program begins at 8:15am sharp unless otherwise advised in the fixture and finishes around noon. The Under 6 Program generally finishes earlier depending on the events being offered on the day.
The Winter Cross Country Season competition starts at 9.00am and finishes around 10.00am.

Winter Cross Country season usually begins in April and runs through to early August.
What other forms of competition are there?
During the season, there are:
- Open Days: Competition with other Centres and a chance to compete against other athletes in Victoria.
- Regional competitions (for U9 to U15) - Competition with other Centres within the Western Metro Region (covering 8 centres)
- State competitions - Children who progress from Region to State Competition compete against athletes from all regions in Victoria.
What is expected of Parents?
Parents are required to assist with the operation of Werribee Little Athletics Centre. Duties are light and require little or no skills. Each week it takes approx 75 volunteers to run a smooth program.
Additionally, any parent wishing to get involved at a club, or centre level are invited to speak to the current committees. Involvement is encouraged and welcome.
What is expected of the Children?
Children must:
- Behave in a proper manner with their friends and parents.
- Uphold our motto ‘Family, Fun, Fitness’.
Is there any training provided?
Further training is available in all events by a range of qualified coaches. Relay training is held on Monday nights from mid October through to mid December and General training is available on Wednesday nights throughout the season.
What about Safety, Insurance and First Aid?
The Werribee Centre has a strict safety policy and all athletes and parents assisting are covered by Insurance provided by the Victorian Little Athletics Association. A qualified First Aid person is in attendance at each session of Little Athletics.
What types of awards / trophies are presented?
At the end of each season, presentations are made to children based on:
- Performance
- Improvement
- Participation
Trophies, Medals and certificates are typically awarded.
What level of ability do children have to have to join?
Werribee Little Athletics Centre promotes family, fun and fitness. Little Athletics is for the whole family to enjoy. Children can join with any level of skill or fitness. Children are given plenty of encouragement to achieve personal bests and are placed in many events based on ability. Competitive athletes do have the ability to extend their athletics beyond our centre level.
